During the winter Watchtree Volunteers will commence the thinning our woodlands. These early thinnings have no commercial value but rather than waste the wood we are intending to convert it to charcoal and/or biochar (a great soil improver). The volunteers have already had training on how to do this. With our Greggs Foundation grant we shall purchase two small charcoal burners and once the wood has dried sufficiently we shall carry out regular burns.

Watchtree has over 20,000 visitors a year and we hope they will be our main outlet for the charcoal to generate a small income for our Charity.
