Tyre Furniture skills is a project that was started in 2016 to deliver tyre furniture making as a recognisable income generating skill,in The Gambia. We succesfully ran the project in Jan/ Feb 2017 in The Gambia and trained two groups of people how to make 5 different peices of tyre furniture . In total we trained 27 people on how to use waste tyres as a useful material instead of wood for furniture making. We also donated tools. The aim of the project was to responsibly recycle tyre waste to prevent tyres from being burned to extract the wires in the tyre. Tyres also provide a strong alternative to wood for furniture making, as wood is is sharp decline and deforestation is one of the major environmental issues in the Gambia.
