Our Story
The Senior Centre works towards reducing loneliness and social isolation amongst the over 55s in Castlemilk and its surrounding areas. By providing members something to do and someone to do it with, we aim to ensure that more independent older adults within the community can continue to live at home and improve their social connections and relationships with their peers.
The Senior Centre’s mission statement –
“Provide an accessible facility in which we will promote the social inclusion of elderly people in the Castlemilk area, by reducing isolation, poverty, poor mental and physical health and poor diet, and by providing and promoting opportunities for older people to live an active, fulfilling and useful life within their community.”We have a busy programme throughout the year offering classes, activities, trips, holidays and parties. Each week we provide transport to and from the centre on accessible minibuses for over 30 members who would otherwise not be able to attend. Once in the centre, members are encouraged to be independent and participate in classes, activities and use the café at their leisure. Staff and volunteers are always on hand to offer guidance and information.
The Senior Centre is an integral part of the community and of daily life for more than 350 members and are a lifeline to the majority who attend the Centre.
