The Port Grocery operates a community shop, based at Trinity Church, Ellesmere Port and we provide
600 members of our community with a source of high quality, low cost, healthy food, all of which is
donated by local supermarkets and retailers. We collect on average 8-10 tonnes of food a week and all
of this would normally have been destined for landfill. Since the start of the current Covid-19 crisis none
of our shop members have been able to attend the shop in person due to social distancing. In addition
more than 400 new individuals have been referred to us through GP’s surgeries, our local housing
association and various other charitable and third sector sources as being in need and requiring food.
As such, we have implemented a delivery service manned by a raft of volunteers and staff who are
currently delivering much needed food to in excess of 120 people per day. In the main these consist of
individuals and families who are self-isolating, suffer from underlying medical/health conditions or are
    elderly or vulnerable
