The late Bloomers Community group, Project togetherness.
We are a fully constituted community group, set up on an over 55’s independant living estate, the group consists of eleven residents.
We have already established a gardening group within the estate grounds but involving participants from the wider community. This has kick started a togetherness for the residents, many who are of a good age, living alone and not always able to go off the estate due to being quite “rusty” in the joints.
They have also benefited from eating home grown seasonal produce not only for health benefits but also it has helped out with their budgets as we don’t charge for produce but those who insist on paying we only will accept a few pence, this then goes back towards buying new seeds.
We have, over the last two years held afternoon teas, and barbeques in one of the communal grounds areas which have been well received and attended. unfortunately this socialising is seasonal due to not having an indoor facility to meet in.
The group is now fundraising to try and raise £8000 min to enable to purchase a log cabin to enable us to hold social events such as craft groups, coffee mornings, afternoon teas, bingo etc.
We have spoken to everyone on the estate and the majority are in support of having this type of facility and have said they are hoping that we we can make it happen sooner rather than later
We are desperate for sponsers and grant providers to help us as, unfortunately, time is not on the side for many of our residents!
So, any help and support we can gain will prove invaluable to acheiving our aim of purchasing this cabin. This cabin will help those suffering with social isolation, especially during these long drab winter months.
