South Western District Gang Show
South Western District Gang Show (SWDGS) is a fast-moving variety show performed in a theatre setting by a cast of boys and girls (6-18y), supported by a team of 30+ adult volunteers who have experience of organising live theatre events. SWDGS cast members are recruited from open workshops in the performing and creative arts, which are offered in the local community. Participation in SWDGS enables the young people to develop skills, self-confidence and teamwork. SWDGS has official recognition by the Scout Association and is the only Gang Show in Glasgow.
SWDGS is operated by the South Western District (SWD), which is a registered charity (SC031964) within the Scout Association. SWD comprises some 800 young people and 150 adult volunteers meeting in Scout Groups distributed across the South West of the City of Glasgow. Communities served include the deprived areas of Govan, Pollok, Nitshill and Darnley. All adults have PVG clearance for work with children. In addition to SWDGS the SWD offers a full programme of Scouting.
