Our Story
We are looking to restore and maintain a memorial garden alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal where our sea cadets unit is based. This memorial garden is to commemorate an ex marine cadet who was killed in action during the Gulf war. In addition to this we are looking at increasing the awareness of our cadets with the local flora and fauna and would like to encourage local wildlife by providing nesting and feeding facilities.
The Greggs foundation grant will allow us to provide a good basis from which we can progress. We can purchase tools and protective clothing for the cadets and volunteers. We are looking to restore the canal side and remove debris and plant fauna that can be self maintaining. We will install some solar lighting so that the area can be viewed from the public walkway alongside the canal. We will also provide some nesting boxes and feeding tables for local birds and will develop bug houses.
