    Welcome to Sandwell Young Carers.

Sandwell Young Carers provides guidance and support to children and young people (aged 5-18) whose health, education and social lives have been affected as a result of caring for a dependent family member.

Our Aim is to be able to offer guidance and support to young carers, their parents, and professionals whose work life may bring them into contact with young carers, directly or indirectly.

You may wish to follow the links which describe you best on our webpage, or telephone our support hotline on 0121 525 8002. Either way our team is here to assist you as a young carer or with supporting a young carer.

Do you help to look after someone at home? If you do, then you may be a young carer and you and your family may be entitled to support. Young carers are children or young people who look after someone (normally in their family) that has an illness or disability. You may take on practical or emotional caring tasks that an adult would normally do. If you are a young carer, you may be looking after your mum or dad, or maybe your brother or sister. The first thing to know is that you are NOT ALONE. There are THOUSANDS of other young people like you who care for someone in their family.

During the COVID-19 pandemic our Short Breaks Team and Support Team are still here for you.

We are making calls to young carers and we are here to take young carers calls to have a chat and say hello! We are on Facebook and Twitter daily with activities and competitions and also doing virtual Saturday session.

    • We are providing 1:1 session with young carers
    • We are attending virtual meetings with families
    • We are still carrying out initial assessments via telephone
    • We are checking in to see how you are and if we can help you with anything!

Our Parents with Disabilities Support Officer is contacting parents to help and support. if you require any help or support, if we can’t help, we know lots of organisations that can.

Promotion and Awareness team have continued to implement a range of promotional activities in order to ensure Health, Education and Social care establishments increase their awareness and their response to young carers to avoid taking on an inappropriate caring role

You can also follow us on Facebook and twitter for up to date information.

Thank you for taking the time to find out what is available to young carers and their family here in Sandwell.
