Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre
Project Category: Registered charity
Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre (SLYC) was inaugurated in 1969 and has the strategic objective and mission of offering disadvantaged young people services and activities that would contribute to their personal and collective growth. The Centre is located at the heart of the Regent’s Park Ward in the London Borough of Camden and serves the whole of the West Euston area.
The project we’ve received funding for from the Regent’s Place Community Fund, Junior Youth Club, involves activities which will enable children to develop greater awareness of issues that affect their emotional, social and educational development. The activities will enhance their aptitude to learning and help to improve their general health and well-being. These aims will be achieved through the delivery of a large range of learning which will help them develop social and life skills: film, music, healthy eating, cooking skills; arts and craft; cultural diversity; community safety; conflict resolution; road safety and environmental education.
The project will also offer facilities for sport, fitness, social interaction, IT, team building, creative development, homework support (English, Maths and Science), literacy and verbal skills. The JYC will offer three encompassing learning programmes:
- Life- Long Skills (communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, cultural diversity, mosaic workshops, T-shirt design, arts & craft, graffiti, Henna painting and cooking)
- Health & Well-Being (sports, fitness, mentoring, drugs awareness, relationships education, anti-bullying and community safety)
- Volunteering Opportunities (Young volunteers – under 18 years old).
- Tuesday (4pm to 6pm)
- Friday (6:30 pm to 8:30pm)
