Reaching for the Stars
Project Category: Registered charity
Scopes4SEN donates telescopes, and when available educational material to special educational needs schools, hospitals, retreat centres, trusts, and any organisation who supports, educates and inspires special educational need pupils and vulnerable people
We donate telescopes to special educational needs schools and hospitals. We believe all children should have the opportunity to explore the moon, the starts and the planets!
Scopes4SEN believe that all children should be given the opportunity to explore the moon, the planets and the stars. It gives them a space to explore, to exercise their imagination, and dream of new possibilities.
Our “Reach for the Stars” project is aimed at schools that cater for children with special educational needs and institutions for children with disabilities. Each school is donated a telescope, a set of binoculars, and accompanying educational material such as: meteorites, SUNoculars, books, posters, magazines, stereoscopes, digital microscopes, planispheres, solar glasses, magnifiers, planetariums, CCD cameras, etc.
Equipment varies depending on the teachers experience and passion for astronomy as well as the student’s needs. The telescopes can be basic table top, travel telescopes, novice, advanced and even computerized telescopes. If the location has a larger number of special educational needs children, they can receive more than one telescope.
SEN pupils often benefit from more hands-on, tactile experiences and our project aims to give them a more enriched educational experience. The schools will have the telescopes for years to come and each one will benefit countless children over the coming years and decades.
Depending on the level of funding we receive, we will be able to donate more (or fewer) telescopes to special educational needs locations.
