  • Our Story

As one of the few areas harbouring natural chalk downland, this project will see an area of scrub and ruderals restored into a wildlife haven of diverse chalk grassland, using seed of local provenance for sowing and growing plug plants.

These activities will be undertaken by our volunteers. This will involve scrub clearance work and
preparation of the area for planting, as well as the sourcing and sowing of the seeds and plants.

Our 55 acre site is within Hampshire’s South Downs National Park. A former naval shore base we have been transforming the site to become a haven for wildlife and people. We have a holistic, practical and creative approach to people care, fair shares and earthcare. The Sustainability Centre is an independent learning and study centre, a beacon for sustainability and an award-winning social enterprise charity.

The Sustainability Centre offers a comprehensive range of activities, learning opportunities and services that embody the charity’s deeply held values whilst enhancing people’s quality of life, whether they are 5 or 95 years old.  Our 55 acre site within the South Downs National Park demonstrates and models practical ecological solutions and offers an authentic example and sense of community to its many and varied visitors.
