Mapping the Seldom Seen is Art Gene’s artist-led research programme for Morecambe Bay Partnership.

Art Gene is collecting the “Seldom Seen” assets of Morecambe Bay: historical insights, stories, old photographs, and artefacts.

Art Gene will be creating original, artworks that interpret the social, natural and industrial heritage of Morecambe Bay. The artworks will include four unique artist drawn maps and four interactive apps for mobiles and tablets. The artworks we produce will reveal the unusual and hidden assets all around the bay. We need you to join us in identifying the sites of significance, the histories of importance and tell us the stories that will give the artworks depth, meaning and purpose.

We’re looking for people to join us as we map the social, natural & industrial history of these communities around the bay.

There’s three ways to get involved:

    • Learn: Become a volunteer Place Maker. Our free training will develop your research and communication skills so you can help us engage with more people from more communities. Our next event is on Saturday 12 July: details here.

    • Share: Bring photos, artefacts, your memories and stories to share at one of the Roadshow events.

    • Look: Join us on a series of free artist-led walks and experience the landscape by ‘close looking.’
