LCC @ Max Roach
Project Category: Registered charity
Loughborough Community Centre (LCC) is a small local charity that was established in 1981, by the residents of Loughborough Estate in Brixton, London. As a positive outcome of the Brixton riots.
We exist to give our local community a safe space to come together, learn and grow to alleviate the effects of poverty for families within the most deprived ward in Lambeth (Coldharbour) at the Max Roach Centre.
From very young tots to the ripe old age of (we wont ask!), we have activities for all members of the community.
What we do:
- Rosebuds pre-school – OFSTED rated ‘Good’ and provides early learning opportunities and support for children aged 2 – 5 years. Thanks to our amazing garden and vegetable patches, we have a real focus on Outdoor Learning
- Holiday Play Project- Children and young people 0-13 yrs and their families free access to; leisure, learning and play activities through the school holidays, along with a nutritious freshly prepared meals by the children and parent volunteers.
- Work with partners including; Five a Side, Fulham FC and LEAP – To extend our activities to include; Free Football coaching to young people, parent & toddler groups, family support and training workshops.
We support and encourage volunteers throughout the community – such as becoming Food Ambassadors that cook lunch within our projects, Parent Representatives to support local parents to support the co-design and management of services and activities.
Our vibrant community space is often packed with people and groups chatting, learning, exercising and celebrating being together.
Why do we do it?
Because our hearts are big, our smiles are warm, our facilities are amazing and everyone could do with a little bit more LCC @ Max Roach community spirit in their lives.
