  • Our Story

La Nova Singers are a female vocal ensemble performing an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and modern choral music.

Our particular interest is in reviving a singing tradition that was almost lost – the art of Bel Canto. This is a technique that originated in Italy in the 17th Century and is now taught by Michelle Nova, our musical director.

We strive to deliver musical excellence and to put on exciting, engaging performances – whether we’re singing in a castle, a church or a shopping centre. The choir is based in Christchurch in Dorset, and typically performs around three major concerts per year. We get a fantastic reaction to these, with people telling us they’ve never heard a choir like us before.

As well as enhancing people’s lives by allowing them to experience the thrill of live music, we support community initiatives and partner with local and national charities to help raise vital funds for their work. This has included serenading sponsored walkers at twilight for Marie Curie; singing at a public memorial service for those affected by cancer; putting on a WW1-themed concert in aid of Help For Heroes; and many more.

We are delighted to have been named as one of the Grassroots Giving Winners for 2014, and have already been putting the funding to good use!
