KFR – White Goods Provision Fund
Project Category: Registered charity
- Our Story
Kennet Furniture Refurbiz (KFR), are a white goods and furniture reuse charity. Recently awarded the “Reuse Organisation of the year 2019” by the Reuse Network, we aim to reduce usable items of furniture from entering landfill and refurbish items of white goods.
Members of the public can donate their unwanted items to us and we will collect for free and bring them back to our warehouse in Devizes, Wiltshire. We then make them available to the general public, at a discounted rate if you are entitled to a means tested benefit. Some areas of Wiltshire are classed as the most deprived in the UK, by reducing furniture poverty we hope to try and alleviate this burden.
At the start of 2018, alarmed at the amount of requests we were receiving from agencies and other charities to provide free items of white goods, we created the Provision Package. A pot of money generated by fundraising, ring fenced specifically for those referred to us in crisis.
To date, we have helped over 150 families or individuals, by providing over 200 items of refurbished white goods for free. With a network of over 30 charities and organisations, people can be referred to us and provided with free items of white goods. We have helped those fleeing domestic violence to start again, saved a family from purchasing a washing machine which came with a hefty 52% interest rate. A soldier suffering with PTSD set up a home after splitting with his family. The stories go on.
We continue to fund raise for this scheme and were lucky enough to be awarded 2k from the Greggs Foundation to put towards the cost of refurbishing white goods and distributing them to those in crisis.
