  • Our Story

Keeping it Wild is a new three-year project, supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund, that will empower and inspire 600 young people aged 11-25, from backgrounds currently under-represented in natural heritage. They will gain vital skills while discovering, conserving and sharing their experiences of the capital’s wild spaces.

The project is led by London Wildlife Trust, the only charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital’s wildlife and wild spaces. Further support and expertise from project partners, Headliners (UK), John Muir Trust, and London Youth.

Youth led communications, social media content and film will form a key outcome of the programme, helping to make London’s wildlife more relevant and accessible to a wider audience of young people. The project will help us to embed best practice in engaging a young audience with the core activities of natural heritage organisations.

Young people in London from a range of backgrounds have had the opportunity to take part in five different activity strands, choosing one or more of the pathways to suits their interests and age group. These consist of Wild Action Taster Days, Social Action Projects, an eight week Wild Action Programme, three month Traineeships (paid via a bursary) and the opportunity to be part of the Keeping it Wild Young People’s Forum.

Keeping it Wild is one of 12 National Lottery Heritage Funded Kick the Dust projects. Additional support has been donated by George Bairstow Charitable Trust, Tallow Chandlers Charitable Trust and Investec.
