Hungry for Change – Community Food Growing project
Project Category: University / College
The Hungry For Change project is a student led venture aiming to help people learn about producing, preparing and appreciating their food. We want to create a community hub where people connect, learn and enjoy food growing together.
Guided sessions are run every Wednesday from 1-4pm. No previous experience is required – though green-fingered helpers are very welcome too. Everybody takes home a share of what is harvested each week – delicious and free organic veggies!
We welcome groups who would like to get involved as well as individuals.
The garden was built in 2013 after receiving funding from the University of Leicester Student’s Union and is now a self-sustaining project that depends entirely on volunteers. The facilities and equipment available at this site mean you are able to visit the garden all year round and get involved in different types of activities, including:
- Weeding and bed care
- Seed sowing and greenhouse watering
- Carpentry and equipment maintenance
- Pruning and planting
- Cooking and baking
- Decoration and sign-making
- Scything and raking
- Harvesting and eating
Visit the Hungry for Change page for updates and to see how YOU can get involved!
We have steel toe capped boots to use if needed, and a cosy hut for making hot drinks and sheltering from rain showers!
The Hungry for Change allotment is based on the University of Leicester Brookfield Campus at 266 London Road – access via the car park off of Holmfield Road.
