Hackney Downs user Group have a pilot scheme on Hackney Downs Park: The Secret Garden. We have use of the space until December 2016. We intend to use it as a pilot to:

Grow flowers and vegetables for and with the wider community.

Encourage use of the space by schools, older people, the young, people with disabilities and health issues.

To encourage as wide a diversity of community engagement as possible with a series of events. Suggestions are:

    Small outdoor performance.

A study/exhibition of Hackneys unique horticultural inheritance.

Growing food that is cooked by Hackney’s fantastic diversity of cultures and nationalities

Encouraging a greater diversity of wildlife (bug hotels, interesting planting etc)

Hosting events: Picnics, fundraising (selling plants and cakes)

Walks and talks, Chelsea Fringe, Poetry.

We hope to raise enough funds to restore dished buildings on the Downs to a community run cafe. With a Grow, Cook Eat project run by local charities
