Our Story
Horsham Matters is a charity that provides crisis support in our local community by running the Horsham District Foodbank, the winter Night Shelter for the homeless and providing home ‘starter packs’ of furniture for people who have been newly housed from homeless.
In response to Covid-19 we focused our charitable work on emergency food provision, moving to a non-contact doorstep delivery of food packages. In February, the then-running Foodbank sessions fed 260 people. Since we moved to the new model on 17 March just before lockdown, we have fed almost 1000 people. As time goes on, the number of people seeking support is increasing as they lose their livelihoods and look to us for help.
This time has provided us with new relationships within the community and greater opportunities to make a difference, including fresh food to supplement Foodbank long-life food. However impactful this has been, it has cost us roughly an extra £7,000 a month to raise, on top of existing costs, at a time when our Charity Shop, which provides most of our income, is closed.
