Project Category: Community Interest Company
We are a community growing project, part of the Hope Charity and Hope social enterprise, based in Northampton, UK.
We grow healthy fruit and veg for use in various food projects also run by Hope in Northampton, supporting people affected by poverty and homelessness: a day centre, food bank and a social supermarket.
The site is based on council allotments and has reclaimed a large area previously under brambles. The project employs a full time gardener and seasonal staff, plus a large range of volunteers. Some of the staff and volunteers have been homeless or had complex problems of addiction and mental ill-health. We offer training to people to get into horticulture and also offer therapeutic horticulture opportunities and education to community groups. We also maintain community gardens for local residents and a therapeutic garden for local residents. We also recycle and sell garden tools.
Corporate groups put in a lot of time to the garden – companies like Nationwide, Barclaycard and Travis Perkins, all based in Northampton
