Our Story
We are a small but growing charity based in Leicester (East Midlands) that deals with the after effects of surgery for throat cancers & all the horrors of havin g no voice! 2020VoiceCancer.org was set up 5yrs ago by myself (Phil Johnson) after my surgeon pointed out all that was lacking in aftercare, and indeed pre-op diagnostics when dealing with these throat cancers. I was appalled. You will see from our free newsletters exactly what we try to do for all larys – and, sadly, the number is growing on a daily basis. Ask yourself this one question: What would I do without a voice – HOW WOULD I COPE?
Imagine the prospect of losing your voice altogether and waking up to a world of non verbal communication? It is horrendous, but the miracles of modern technology mean that once the healing process is well under way a voice can be regained: OK, it’s not your own voice because your larynx has been totally removed, but it is similar to a Dalek voice (remember Dr Who?).
When you have your new voice you feel reborn, as indeed you are, for you may have lost a vital part of you but you have lived & survived one of the most complicated & horrendous surgeries around!
By helping this charity you are helping a section of cancer sufferers that the majority of people have not the faintest idea about…..UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO THEM!
