  • Our Story

GAZ is a small charity that works with children and young people aged 8 – 21 in the community of Grimethorpe, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.  Our aim is to provide free services and activities that help local children and young people overcome the effects of living in a deprived area and develop in to more active, creative, accepted and valued members of our community, also to maintain a centre from where we can deliver our services.  Our work is based on need, which we determine following research and consultation with young people, families, relevant organisations and research from other sources.  Currently our work includes help with finding employment and training, giving advice and advocacy, after school and school holiday clubs, these include a range of fun, challenging and educational activities, help with homework and free food,  young female support groups, free tutoring and a school prom outfit lending service.  Annually we work with more than 200 young people.
