  • Our Story

Grange Pavilion is a resident-led project to redevelop a neglected Bowls Pavilion and Green as a multifunctional facility for Grangetown’s diverse communities, providing civic amenities including multiple spaces for community use and for hire, and a community-focused café and garden for wellbeing, play, education, growing and biodiversity, meeting priorities identified by Grangetown communities.

The priority is to serve local people, by providing opportunities for education and training, increased health and wellbeing, increased social cohesion and youth provision, and encourage more community action.

The project will increase a civic facility by 330m2 to meet the high demand for bookable space to deliver activities targeting improved, health, economic and learning outcomes; support a social enterprise café and adjacent community and school garden where residents of varying ages, faiths and cultures can connect in a neutral and welcoming space; and create a high quality, environmentally sustainable redevelopment which improves the urban environment and provides much-needed public amenities in a popular inner-city park.

A new building will enable residents of Grangetown to generate revenue for wider community benefit, creating a self-sustaining community asset, led by the community for the community. University-supported skill and capacity building will be provided to Grangetown community members over a sustained period to develop an asset which  meaningfully responds to the needs and ambitions of Grangetown communities.
