  • Our Story

We’re a non-profit organisation loosely based on the U.S. Rock n Roll Camp for Girls model.  We run vocals, guitar, bass and drums workshops for women, non binary people and transfolk.

We ensure that all of our workshop spaces and venues are wheelchair accessible, and as long as you’re over 18, we don’t discriminate on age, ethnicity, religious denomination, or anything else you can think of. Our workshops are free (although we encourage those who can afford it to donate what they can to help us cover running costs) so they’re accessible to those on low incomes.

We feel that projects like GRSE are important because women aren’t encouraged to pick up electric instruments or get behind the drums, and if they do they’re expected to wear as little as possible. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for women at every stage of becoming a musician. Although things are starting to change, there’’s still not enough role models, and the women musicians who are visible are usually airbrushed and pouting on the covers of magazines and album covers, making young girls feel that they have to sexualise themselves to get anywhere. In addition, there’s very few trans and non binary people in the music industry.  Again, things are starting to change but it’s not happening fast enough, so along with our sister schools Girls Rock School Northern Ireland, Girls Rock Glasgow, and Girls Rock Dublin, we intend to get it sorted!
