  • Our Story

Our community group is dedicated to offering a varied and exciting programme of activities that encourage local folk into our park. We are very proud of our legions of volunteers who dedicate their time to support our efforts to look after the park landscape, improve and protect a very rich wildlife habitat and engage with us to ensure that the park is preserved for future generations.  When we’re not out there ‘getting our hands dirty’, we have been focussing our attention on renovating an old 1940’s Nissen Hut that we can use as a hub for our outreach activities, somewhere dry and warm over the winter months where we can welcome people of all ages to an exciting programme of activities ranging from pop-up cafes, craft and cooking workshops, exercise sessions, gardening club and a game of lawn bowls thrown in for good measure! As things stand, we are only able to use the building during the warm months. When the world around us dramatically changed earlier this year we adapted quickly to ensure that we were still here to welcome those most affected by the change of circumstances: the lonely and isolated in our neighbourhood, and we have continued with a slimmed down programme that aims to offer exercise, comfort and companionship during these difficult times. As we look forward to 2021, we anticipate an ever growing number of people keen to join in with our activities and we need to improve our facilities so that they are ‘fit for purpose’. Over the last eighteen months, we have been working hard to refurbish the Nissen Hut and are now in the position of having to replace windows and doors as well as insulating a rather draughty tin roof! We have been able to access small grants towards the total cost and are now putting all our efforts into fundraising to complete the work over the winter so that when we see the shoots of a recovery, we can once more open our doors to everyone again!
