Free Cakes for Kids Southampton is part of the Free Cakes for Kids network which has over 60 groups under the national umbrella in most parts of the UK.

The Southampton group is a volunteer led community organisation who bake birthday cakes for children, who live within the City of Southampton, whose families, for one reason or another such as financial hardship, disability or unexpected illness, are unable to provide a birthday cake for their child.

We work with local community organisations, charities and statutory organisations who refer eligible families to us. We then match the cake request with a volunteer baker who designs and bakes a birthday cake especially for the child taking into account the child’s favourite colours, themes etc. The cake is then delivered to the referring organisation who pass it on to the family for the child’s birthday.

If you’re a keen baker who would like to help us make children’s birthdays that bit more special, we are always looking to recruit new members to meet the growing demand for our service.  As we do not have premises, bakers use their home kitchen and adhere to environmental health department guidelines and health and safety practices when they bake for us. We require all bakers to commit to baking at least one cake in their first six months of volunteering for us.

We are also looking for local volunteers to help with the collection and delivery of the cakes.  You will need access to your own vehicle and your insurance should cover your volunteering work.
