Our Story
http://agreenern19.wordpress.com/
http://www.greendrinks.org/London/North%20Islington
This group was born in 2010 when a number of North Islington residents got together to lobby MP Jeremy Corbyn as part of the nationwide Stop Climate Chaos Big Climate Connection campaign
Since then we have met on more or less monthly basis where we discuss all things environmental:
- news, local, national, international
- new research on air pollution, renewable energy, climate change etc
- campaigns by NGOs & charities from London Cycling Campaign or Greenpeace etc to less heard-of pressure / research groups
- politics with environmental ramifications from the political parties on council, mayoral and parliamentary levels
- environmental programmes in private industry or public bodies, e.g. the Whittington Hospital
- activities by other local groups in Islington, Hackney, Highgate, Harringey that come to our attention
- individual green efforts from changing electricity supplier to complete house renovation
We also aim to do things which might make a difference:
- questioning and suggesting improvements in public policy or standards
- publicising such questions and suggestions in the press and online
- identifying grants or other funding for environmental improvements and programmes
- taking part in online email campaigns
- keeping in touch with other local groups and campaigns
- making improvements in our own personal environments
- providing each other moral support for our own environmental convictions
