Earth Moves Cooperative
Project Category: Co-Operative
Earth Moves offers educational and transformational experiences and events. We are a cooperative who adhere to cooperative ethics and principles. We advocate holistic, self-empowered and creative ways of engagement, healing, conflict resolution and enhanced understanding.
We believe that arts, well-being activities, nature immersion and horticulture are life-enhancing for the individual, the community, and the planet.
Our main current project is ‘Dream of Green’ at the Belisama Community Greenhouse in Wallasey, for which we have recently received Big Lottery Awards for All funding to run a season of free workshops and activities through 2018.
In early 2017 a group of like minded people set up a workers co-op to assist the restoration and reuse of a commercial greenhouse and to create for the community a multiple use space connecting people with horti/permaculture and nature while designing opportunities for creativity and wellbeing. Located in Wallasey on an urban fringe in Merseyside the area has food growing heritage that reaches back into the Mesolithic and due to its unique location and soil was a main supplier of vegetables and flowers for cities in the North West and through the shipping trade at Liverpool to markets further afield. Sadly the land and the horticulture skills of the people of Wallasey have been in serious decline since the 1960s and the effects of globalisation and the competition of scale of the supermarket economy. Our interests include redesigning the greenhouse space to make it fit for sustainable and diverse future uses in a more sharing and cooperative local economy for community benefit and renewal.
