Our Story
Funding from Greggs Foundation enabled Elleray Hall Social Cub to purchase the equipment needed to run an indoor weekly crazy golf activity.
Elleray Hall is a day-time social centre aiming to promote independent living and reduce the loneliness and social isolation of vulnerable adults living locally. We achieve this by hosting a wide range of imaginative and creative physical and mental health activities which consider members’ capabilities. Our goal is also to offer age-friendly volunteering opportunities to help people connect with the community, feel valued, provide them with a sense of purpose and potentially learn new skills.
We were looking to fund an entirely new and innovative project for our members and realised that there is no local facility for crazy golf. Thanks to the money we received from Greggs Foundation, we bought 3 indoor putting green, 13 moulded crazy golf obstacles, putters and golf balls.
Each week we deliver the hour-long activity with the help of up to 3 volunteers. We see so many of our members really enjoying themselves – golf appeals to both sexes and encourages socialisation and group work. There are also physical benefits as it can train muscle tone, balance and motor skills which is good for the elderly, both mentally and physically. Increasing their confidence too each week can create a positive spiral as well as greater independence and for our members who are unable to physically join in, they love being a spectator and watching their friends participate.
