Crafternoon- creative wellbeing sessions
Crafternoon: Creative Wellbeing Sessions is a initiative focused around bringing communities together through a series of creative experiences that promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing.
The project aims to respond to the our current research and experiences surrounding mental health, self care and isolation prevention services, which at present are in high demand. In light of this need we are working with those who suffer from mental and emotional ill health and people who are socially isolated and are suffering from loneliness within communities.
Through our engagement over the past 18 months we have seen a huge positive impact through the Crafternoon initiative for individuals and communities. It has taught the organisation what is needed in the community, the barriers to participation and provided us with potential solutions which we have responded to with the feedback and support of the local community.
With this understanding and knowledge, we know it is now more than ever so important to continue our work during the current Covid-19 pandemic, as people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health are heightened by these world wide circumstances. Therefore, we have become adaptive and responsive to this need and have expanded our creative wellbeing provision through the following activities:
Online Crafternoon sessions- a virtual alternative of our regular community session during this time and we hope beyond. These sessions are open to all and provide support, connectivity and creativity online; that will enable a great number of people socially isolated within the community to be able to participate. Additionally, the online sessions can be accessed whenever is convenient for participants and at a pace they are comfortable with.
Crafternoon Craft Boxes- Each Craft box contains a series of activities, instructions, all resources and links to our online platforms to receive further support with participating in the activities, if it is applicable and appropriate for them.
Throughout the duration of the project and beyond we aim to improve upon people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing, as well as looking to reduce loneliness, and create a sense of belonging and improve sense of self which in turn will have a greater social impact in the wider community. Furthermore, we will be developing artistic skills and knowledge within the community, building confidence, skill sharing and creativity which we hope to have a lasting affect for individuals.
