Bournemouth Parks in Mind
Project Category: Registered charity
- Our Story
Parks in Mind uses the power of nature to promote physical and mental health, whilst improving green spaces for people and wildlife. It does this by providing free volunteering opportunities on parks and open spaces where people can take part in fun nature conservation, health walks, arts and wellbeing activities.
The project is centred on Boscombe. This is the most deprived area in Bournemouth, is in the top 1% of most deprived areas in England, and is the most deprived area in the South West region. It is a part of the town where a good number of people are described as being excluded from normal social opportunities or life chances because they lack the necessary economic resources.
Working alongside Public Health Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, the project seeks to improve mental and physical health, whilst enhancing the communities’ local parks and other green spaces.
Jointly developed by Public Health Dorset, Bournemouth Council and Bournemouth Parks Foundation, the project is evaluated to monitor its progress and the benefits of those taking part.
