We are delighted to have been awarded funding from the Community Project Fund supported by the Greggs Foundation.  Growing Matters is a new charity operating from Gilmerton House Kitchen Garden, delivering therapy through horticulture.  We have an enthusiastic group of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds, all united in the restoration of this historic walled garden to create a center for horticultural therapy and training in a variety of garden skills.  Funding has enabled us to train six of our volunteers in bee keeping, purchase our first hive and nucleus and ensure that we have bee keeping suits and equipment to look after our bees.  Our training has been enormously beneficial for our volunteers and they will continue to learn about our bees in the spring and support further volunteers who become involved in the garden to learn about bee keeping.  Our local schools will be encouraged to visit once our bees are active again and view a working hive in operation.
