  • Our Story
At BEAMZ, we have a vision:
“To create beautiful, high-performance, bicycles from hardwood in the most sustainable, inclusive and environmentally friendly way.”
As you can see the bike looks great, it brings joy to the rider and when people see a BEAMZ bike they “get it”!
The next stage of the project is to replicate our tools to an industrial standard, get test equipment to replicate long-term use of the bikes, and open the first BEAMZ workshop that will form a template for bringing pleasant work to many across the UK, while providing three positive impacts.

    Why Use Wood?

Wood is an obvious choice to fulfill this vision as it offers:
    • a natural beauty
    • excellent strength to weight characteristics
    • shock-absorbing ride comfort
    • a robust finish resistant to dents
    • and each bike is guaranteed to be unique let alone bespoke!

BEAMZ Trust CIC is a not-for profit Social Enterprise.

    Climate Change

A BEAMZ bicycle frame requires less than 5% of the energy input compared to an equivalent aluminium bicycle frame. See our aluminium equivalence analysis here
The wood captures carbon and can be grown near a BEAMZ workshop.

    Wildlife Diversity

The coppice method of harvesting wood has been with us for 100s of years.
BEAMZ will use this circular system for collecting the wooden poles required to make the frames and stays.
When cut, the tree regrows new poles, allowing the open floor of the wood to provide nature the space to thrive.

    Wellbeing

BEAMZ will create work and voluntary activities involving skilled manual work, working with wood and working in woodlands.

These have all been shown to be very helpful in supporting and repairing poor mental health.
