Bright Green Future is an exciting national programme for teenagers between 14 and 18 who want to create a more sustainable future for our planet. It is a unique opportunity to learn about sustainability and environmental decision making. Throughout the year you’ll participate in training activities, a work experience placement and a summer camp. We’ll also help you to set up and run a local project in your community.

Interested? Great. Here’s a bit more detail.

Face-to-face training, online webinars and hands-on activities to help you to improve your knowledge and understanding of energy and sustainability and how to influence decision making. You’ll find out about things like running successful community projects; energy efficiency; fuel poverty; renewable energy; community energy; sustainable energy and how important decisions are made. A series of follow up activities will give you opportunities to find out more about the topics and to influence change in your area.

    Local projects

As part of the programme we’ll help you to set up and run at least one environmental project in your local town, village or neighbourhood. You can use one of our project ideas or develop your own. It’s a good way to get really valuable experience in running projects while making a difference in your community. And you can work with friends to make it more fun!

    Work placements

We’ll help you to arrange a work placement or shadowing of a professional in an organisation that influences decisions about the future. It will help give you a genuine insight into what it’s like to work in the sustainability sector, as well as expanding your career options. Organisations could include…

    • Environmental charitable organisations
    • National governmental agencies
    • Landscape planning agencies
    • Local councils, particularly environmental management or planning departments
    • Town and parish councils

    Summer school

This is a four day residential summer school jam packed with talks, discussions and practical activities. It is an excellent opportunity to meet other people on the programme, further develop your skills and confidence, and get to grips with various environmental issues.

Throughout the programme you’ll be paired up with a member of the Bright Green Future team. Your mentor will keep in touch with you and help to make sure you get the most out of participating on the programme. They will also be able to give you support and guidance with setting up and running your local project.
