About you

I’m the Secretary of Friends of Lamplighter’s Marsh (FOLM) who are a voluntary nature conservation group working in the Lamplighter’s Marsh Local Nature Reserve, Shirehampton, Bristol. It was set up in November 2015, and has featured in an infomercial about strokes in 2017 for Boehringer Ingelheim and circulated to clinicians in the UK and USA, also a BBC Radio interview in 2018 about the World War 1 Remount Centre that was in part of the nature reserve and sent over 300,000 horses and mules to the Front Line. In 2018 with the help of volunteers from the Environment Agency, we built a lone bee bank by hand from 13 tonnes of aggregate and sand. As well as clearing scrub working in close collaboration with Bristol City Council Parks Department, we provide free expert-led walks in the nature reserve for the local and wider community. In November 2018, we hosted a three day event that was part of the Being Human national festival.
The generous grant from the Greggs Foundation Environmental Grant will be spent in 2019 to refurbish and protect the bee bank, and provide more expert-led walks covering foraging to pollinators.

I am separately a Trustee of the Shirehampton Community Action Forum (SCAF) whose charitable objectives include improving life within Shirehampton including public safety, prevention of crime, and the improvementof health.
