Garelochhead Station Trust
Garelochhead Station Trust is a newly established organisation with a remit of delivering services to veterans and their families, and as such have a number of varied events and courses running or scheduled. Founded with assistance and guidance from Kilmarnock station railway heritage Trust, a grant from Scottish government aspiring communities European social fund, amongst others, has enabled us to organise training, trips and events from the outset, and build links between the community and veterans in close proximity to Faslane naval base.
We hold a brunch club fortnightly in the Gibson Hall, Garelochhead, which is open to all. Veterans eat for free, and visitors can have a full cooked breakfast for just £3.50.
Our biggest event so far was a D-Day commemoration, with a structured service being followed by an informal indoor street party in the afternoon; this led to working with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers to run a vintage tea dance with afternoon tea, and a ceilidh to celebrate Valentines Day.
