Semble worked with Friends of Weelsby Woods a volunteer group dedicated to maintaining and improving the Grimsby-based public park, to support them to win funds for new animal carvings and benches as part of the Sizzling and Carling Community Action campaign. This is a Carling Made Local initiative that sees Great Brtiain’s number one lager brand support a range of local community projects across the UK.

Nominated for support by the local Sizzling pub, The Grosvenor, Friends of Weelsby Woods has been able to purchase and install five hand-made woodland animal carvings, as well as three benches. The carvings have replaced previous creations that were much-loved by visitors, but which had fallen into disrepair and been removed, whilst the benches will provide valuable resting points on the park’s woodland trail.

In addition, the funds have been put towards native wildflower seeds, designed to create a series of wildflower meadows that will improve the park’s biodiversity. On Friday 10 th May, staff from The Grosvenor and Friends of Weelsby Woods volunteers joined forces to sow the wildflower seeds and witness the benches being installed. The funding will have a lasting impact on the park, with Group Secretary Jemmima Edwards saying, “The new carvings, benches and wildflowers are all fantastic additions that will be enjoyed by thousands of local people for years to come. We are hugely grateful to the Sizzling and Carling Community Action
campaign for helping us to restore Weelsby Woods to its former glory”.
