Project Description

The Great Get Together: Together is Connection, Compassion, Community.
Every year, the Jo Cox Foundation invites people across the country to celebrate the power of community in memory of MP Jo Cox who was killed on the 16th June 2016. In her first speech in Parliament, Jo said, “We have more in common than that which divides us”. Through The Great Get Together, we come together to embrace Jo’s words.
Though we can’t get together, we can still connect together!
Semble is a place where people participating in the Great Get Together from 19 – 21 June can come together and share inspiring stories of community connection.

This year there were fears that the GGT would have to be cancelled. But the team were inspired by stories of people connecting and supporting each other and reminded that Jo Cox used to say that we should focus on what we can do, not what we can’t.
We’ve swapped out our usual street parties and BBQs, for virtual silent discos and community sing-a-longs, doorstep parties and small acts of kindness. We invite everyone to take part in a safe and socially distanced way. Show the power of community and the importance of connection by doing something in your street or neighbourhood, like a socially distanced tea party, or a doorstop collection for a local foodbank. Or do something on the phone or online, like making contact with an old friend, or researching local history to share with your neighbours. Here are lots more ideas!
It can be any size – a really small connection or something more ambitious – join in the fun.
