As 2020 is coming to a close, it feels like it is finally time to take a quick breath.

Like most charities and community organisations, we won’t entirely stop for Christmas, but we will be running a reduced service.

I am incredibly lucky that after a VIP visit to the children in our community this weekend, I will be taking some leave until the New Year. To those of you that are soldiering on through, thank you, and I hope you find a few moments to relax and reflect.

This year has been exceptional, there have been tears, sleepless nights and just a few choice words, but there has also been joy, support and loads of learning and innovating.

Going into 2021 is still going to be tough. It will take a while for vaccines to take hold, and the financial impact of Covid is going to be with us for a good few years to come.

But I go into a Christmas break knowing we have done all we can to ensure young people in Claremont and their families have been supported through a really difficult year, and they have also been able to have a lot of fun.

I am also feeling optimistic. Our first Christmas campaign #MoreThanAYouthClub has given us the opportunity to meet new supporters and share our work with a much wider audience. We’ve had donations rolling in daily from our Wish List (our postie things I have a shopping problem) and a new audience is really connecting with our purpose.

So thank you to Storythings, Greggs 4 Good and Semble, it is the workshop you hosted that pushed me into creating this campaign and enabled new supporters to find us.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas, and here’s to a new year filled with more joy, support, learning and story telling.
