Hi! It seems like forever since I last wrote a blog for here, this hasn’t been intentional I can promise, we have all been flat out supporting our growing community as best we can throughout the pandemic.

We had some amazing news in that we received funding from the Government’s Coronavirus response fund, distributed by the National Lottery 🙂 This has allowed us to really step up a level and open our new Tanga Hub in the Community Centre in Hexham. Although we are not fully up to speed yet we are already running our parent and carer support groups and organising our activities for the families from here. We have during the COVID crisis now handed out in excess of 400 bags and packs for the children to entertain them, and the grown ups have not been forgotten with packs to help them with their mental health.

In the summer we ran some amazing outdoor sessions (see photo) , and the online side of things has also carried on with the youth groups, support groups, competitions and interactive projects that we have taken part in.

We’ve set up a reference and DVD library in the Hub too, alongside our brand new specialist equipment, sensory & toy library, which already has loads of interest. We will be officially launching these in the New Year.

I have embarked on a year long course that I was lucky enough to be chosen for with the School for Social Entrepreneurs, with Lloyds Bank, this is already showing great benefits with a network of like minded people, legal experts and financial whizz kids! I’m really enjoying being back in a more Corporate environment and learning how this can benefit our sector.

We are loving being in the Community Centre as well, we’ve raised our profile with the help of the Tynedale Community Learning Trust and people like Hexham Youth Initiative. It would be remiss not to mention Prudhoe Town Council also who have helped us keep the roof over our heads due to the large amount of children on our books who live in Prudhoe and the surrounding areas.

Member numbers have increased again to over 200 and now we find ourselves covering Tynedale, the wider Northumberland area, up to Cumbria, Newcastle and well into Gateshead. As ever, anyone who needs us is more than welcome to access our services!

That’s all for now, I will try to update sooner next time, stay safe out there and remember if you need us, please get in touch!
