Our first event as ‘Keep Ystradfellte Tidy Community Group’ was on the 28th April 2018.  We were greatly assisted by Rachel Palmer, local rep for ‘Keep Wales Tidy’, who supplied all the the litter picking tools, bags, gloves, hi-vis jackets and hoops to hold the bags.

Ystradfellte is a key tourist spot in the Brecon Beacons because of its well-known wonderful waterfalls, walking routes, ancient megaliths, and superb cycling routes.  It is estimated that over 70,000 people visit the village annually.

About a dozen people turned up, of all ages, and within 2 hours we covered most of a 1 miles radius of the village including  the Brecon Beacons National Park carparks and key tourist spots.  Around 16 huge sacks of litter were collected ready for picking up by Powys Council refuse collectors later that week.

This encouraging start led the founder-organiser, local architect Stephen Waldron, to apply for funding to Gregg’s Foundation for 15 complete sets of our own equipment.  IN August we were thrilled to received the cheque and now have the equipment ready for a post-summer clean-up blitz!
