Wow! what a busy year ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company have had so far.

ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company have received numerous funding over the course of the year from the following funders: Devon Community Foundation, Local Giving, Magic Little Grants, WHSmiths, Claire Milne Trust and more recently Boost.

This funding will ensure the continuation of the weekly dance group for young people age 12-25 years with and without disabilities, behaviour disorders and those in care arrangements. Our aim is to raise aspirations and confidence, offering participants an opportunity to develop skills in contemporary dance and choreography. The weekly sessions are free for all participants and transport to and from the group is offered to those who need it.

Exim Dance company have recently taken on our own studio – Exim Dance Space, in which ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company will run sessions at, making this their new, accessible and safe space.

ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company have also took part in numerous performances across the city of Plymouth. In June, they performed at Funky Llama Festival and in August the group performed at Dance in The City at The Piazza, Plymouth. At both these performances the group had the opportunity to watch other performances as well as partake in workshops in various styles of dance including a popping workshop by BBC Young Dance 2019 winner Max Revell. ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company had such a great time performing and throughly enjoyed dancing with new people.

Many of ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company also took part in Exim’s Fit and Fed Programme from Plymouth City Council Sports Development Unit. Fit and Fed provided free holiday activities and healthy lunches to young people who receive free school meals to reduce holiday hunger and inactivity. During the four weeks, young people took part in various activities at our programme based at Plymouth School of Creative Arts. Each week, the young people took part in Yoga, Contemporary, Street Dance, Jazz and Singing classes, as well as creating their own choreography including finishing each week with an informal sharing to family and friends.

As ADAPT Youth Inclusive Dance Company begin a new academic term, they are very much looking forward to all the opportunities that will arise over the year.

“What a lovely surprise to see my treasured Grandson has become so self confident after attending this group. For anyone who has a child with special needs I would highly recommend the child joining this group to help make the most of themselves and their talents.”
